One fancy shape diamond that is making a big comeback is the marquise cut. A Marquise shape diamond is simply a long diamond that comes to two points, and has the faceting of a round brilliant cut with 58 facets. This lovely shape made its debut centuries ago, as the navette cut. A Navette cut is a marquise shape, with an open culet. It was used many times as a center diamond for beautiful Art Deco engagement rings. As master diamond cutters became more sophisticated, they learned how to close the culet and the marquise cut was born! The marquise became the "go to" shape for women in the 1960's and 1970's. If you didn't have a marquise shape, pear shape, or square cut then you really weren't wearing a diamond. As the 1980's emerged, the marquise shape became less popular. Today, see a resurgence in women wearing this wonderful fancy shape. Here are four stunning marquise engagement rings .
