Happy birthday Opal! Opal is a form of silica, and is also partially comprised of water. This semi precious gem comes in many forms and colors. The most popular shape is cabochon ( no facets) and the colors include white, black and a fiery rainbow pastel color ( our favorite).

Opals have been used as jewelry throughout history, but received a major comeback in the 1960's and 1970's. In the 1970's women wore large opals with beautiful melee diamonds surrounding it for a gorgeous look. Also popular in the 1960's and 1970's were large opal jewelry sets including opal necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Let's wish opal a happy birthday, and it will soon to make a big comeback! Our next birthday is another beautiful semi precious gem, the citrine!
